Upgrade ensures prosperous future for Pacific Dunes

I am always amused to hear talk of the golf industry declining.

Why?

Shouldn’t it make me mad? Shouldn’t I be thinking of rebuttal to contradict the offender?

Then I realise, I don’t need to because I, like many others in the industry, don’t need to think of arguments to defend the game. We know it is still strong, thanks to confidence, financial investments and innovative thinking at a club level.

Take Pacific Dunes in Port Stephens, for example.

You may question why one of NSW’s top courses, currently ranked at number 54 in Australia, clearly drawing in the players, would spend $3 million on a Golf and Country Club venue.

Two words: Strategic vision.

Not only can you enjoy a game of golf at Pacific Dunes, but you can now wine and dine in a modern and environmentally friendly facility.

Pacific Dunes’ General Manager, Kurt Linde, said the venue would serve as the perfect solution for formal and corporate events, accommodating up t0 200 guests.

The clever move I’m applauding? Mr Linde has specified this facility is NOT just for golfers. He has boosted its appeal to a wider demographic.

It seems clear that Mr Linde knows what he’s doing, having approved the luxurious but environmentally sustainable design that will dramatically reduce energy consumption and long-term operational costs of the facility.

These features include air conditioning that incorporates a geothermal heat pump system which is also linked to the venue’s swimming pool and hot water, along with a 30kw solar-powered photovoltaic system which is utilised to offset building energy usage.

Bravo to Pacific Dunes. While it’s a significant investment, they’re thinking long-term and strategically for not only the players but for the wider community to enjoy club facilities.

What do you think about Pacific Dunes foresight? Do you think other clubs need to adopt similar projects to yield stability? I would love to know your thoughts.
